Lauren A Stubbs PT, DPT (She / Hers)

My clients want to live their best life, and I help make that happen!

Mission

My mission from day one in physical therapy school was to become a physical therapist that you enjoyed seeing and looked forward to having sessions with. I learned as an adolescent that not all physical therapy is created equal, and a lot of that has to do with your experience and relationship with your PT.

(many thanks to my inspiring physical therapist in Greensboro all those years ago)

Now that I've been practicing PT for several years, my mission has grown to encourage proactive health and not to rely solely on reactive health, which is much of healthcare today.

I want to educate as many people as possible on the benefits of using physical therapy treatments and education proactively in their health - to stay fit, active, and well and to avoid disease or injury. Your quality of life can be much higher if you get tailored physical therapy advice to ease your nagging chronic pains that you’ve grown used to ignoring.

Vision

My vision is for the world to be a healthier and sustainable place to live.

I want to empower people to optimize their movement, activity, health, and wellness.

How? Starting by preventing pain, or eliminating pain quickly once it presents, and then creating individualized plans to stay strong and active!

The healthier and more active we are, the more sustainably we can live on our planet.

COVID 19: a Silver Lining & a Pivot

Dr. Stubbs moved back to NC during the COVID-19 pandemic. She knew that physical therapy, among other professions, had been hard hit, but had also been sparked to change for the better.

While working during the initial months of the COVID-19 pandemic, she observed the positive changes that occurred in outpatient PT due to eliminating patient overlap and increasing one-on-one appointment time to 45-60 minutes.

Patients whom she typically expected to get better in 6-8 weeks, got better and achieved their goals in 4 weeks, due to the increased one-on-one time provided in each session. This allowed patients to progress faster and become independent sooner with their HEP.

Many patients also realized that telehealth physical therapy was effective for them and spared them the time and risk of attending in-clinic sessions. Many patients seemed to get better faster with the more active therapy sessions provided via telehealth.

Therefore, Dr. Stubbs decided to open her own business, for mobile and telehealth physical therapy that will always schedule convenient one-on-one visits between therapist and client. With a treatment approach that emphasizes exercise therapy balanced with manual therapy, clients achieve their goals in a shorter time.

In 2024 after 3.5 wonderful years in Greensboro, she moved Stubbs Mobile PT to Richmond, Virginia with her husband as he pursues his physical therapy dreams in the academic setting at Virginia Commonwealth University.

What People Are Saying

I have gone to physical therapy for a couple of issues over the last year. Lauren, my physical therapist is very knowledgeable, helpful, kind, and encouraging . I really appreciate the help she has given me.

— KATHRYN

Lauren was professional and responsive when I reached out to find treatment of a chronic hip pain. At our first appointment, she was able to pinpoint the problem area, and develop a treatment plan for me. Within a few weeks of PT with Lauren, I am seeing improved mobility and even more importantly: am finally pain free in my hip.

— KEVIN

As someone who has consistently worked out for many years, I did not expect to learn new exercises. Sort of thought I knew them all by now. Lauren showed me a new way to strengthen my shoulders in all directions to repair the instability my torn rotator cuff has left me with. I could tell these new exercises would be effective because they were challenging my shoulders in ways I had never experienced.

— MARK

Lauren is kind and personable and has been working diligently to address my shoulder pain. She offers different modalities and has given me exercise instructions to do exercises at home.

— MARILYN

A Detailed Back Story

Growin’ Up Years

Lauren Stubbs grew up in Greensboro, NC attending Brooks Global Elementary School, the former Aycock Middle School, and Grimsley High School. It was during her adolescent years at Aycock and Grimsley that she experienced injury, physical therapy, conservative management, and surgery herself. She had a wonderful physical therapist who energized and motivated her during every PT visit, so much so that she looked forward to going to PT even when her friends did not. This experience, along with a desire to help others and a natural aptitude for anatomy, inspired her to become a physical therapist.

College Years

She attended North Carolina State University, where she entered the First Year College program and learned that while a degree in biology may be common pre-health course work, a degree in nutrition science would also meet the physical therapy school pre-requisite course requirements. Additionally this degree would come to help her serve her clients better, providing nutrition education for lifelong habit change, as part of her health and wellness services. Her nutrition classes were her favorites each semester, alongside various Phys Ed (like rock climbing, tennis, racquetball, water aerobics, and dance) and French language courses. She worked as a server after graduating in 2011 to gain work experience in customer service, which laid the groundwork for emphasizing & improving the customer experience in her physical therapy services.

DPT Time

From there she continued her education at East Carolina University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program and graduated in 2015. Her capstone research project investigated running biomechanics, or gait pattern, and its association to increasing or reducing tibial stress (think shin splints or stress fractures in the lower leg). Dr. Stubbs has 6+ years of general outpatient and orthopedic physical therapy experience. She has worked in both Kentucky and Colorado, prior to returning to her home state of North Carolina. She enjoys working with a wide variety of clients, from active adults and runners, to those with balance and gait difficulties, or chronic pain and disability, to acute or post-op injuries. She has more than 4 years of dry needling experience with training from the Dry Needling Institute. She offers healthy weight loss coaching through a program combined with physical therapy, helping those with metabolic syndrome and orthopedic back, hip, or knee pain to feel better and live a healthy lifestyle. Her two top performing and most motivated patients lost more than 25 pounds each!

Okay, okay but what is she really like?

Lauren enjoys hiking, walking, running, going to the lake or beach, yoga, barre, body pump, cycling, and playing any outdoor game. She also finds joy in cooking and discovering new recipes on Pinterest, crafting new cocktails or tasting local beer and wine, traveling across the US and beyond, and knitting or creating jewelry. The sustainability of the earth and our environmental effects are concerning, thus she attempts to reduce her personal consumption and waste impact on the world by changing kitchen & grocery habits, re-purposing items around the house, and continuing to find great deals at consignment stores. She brings this eco-conscience to her business practice, sourcing equipment from environmentally-minded vendors, encouraging & supporting others in adopting healthy & sustainable lifestyles, and planning for an electric & solar-powered vehicle for delivery of mobile physical therapy services.
